What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of The River Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

We believe in One eternally existing God who created all things. God has revealed Himself to us as our Father, in His Son Jesus Christ, and as the Holy Spirit, with distinct attributes but without division of nature, essence, or being. Jesus Christ is God displayed in flesh. He is both God and man.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore.

Revelation

God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God, through the holy scriptures, and through all of creation itself.

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us to God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. He was raised from the dead and now by grace offers eternal life as a free gift to all who follow Christ. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.

Water Baptism

We believe that our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is expressed by calling on His Name in the waters of baptism. Water baptism is an act of obedience identifying with Jesus in death to sin, burial of the old nature, and resurrection to new life. We are baptized for the remission of our sins.

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is active in the world today. Being filled with the Holy Spirit and developing the life characteristics produced by His indwelling are the privileges of all New Testament believers.

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are a Spirit-filled church and a bible-based church.

Ressurection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.

Gifts of the Spirit

We believe in the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He ministers to His people through tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy; words of knowledge and wisdom, discerning of spirits, faith, working of miracles, healing, helps and government.
